Record stable identity first
Year, country, denomination, mint mark and visible variety details are more durable than a current market price.
Photograph obverse and reverse
Use consistent light, focus and scale. Keep the full coin edge visible and preserve the original image files.
Separate grade from source
Label whether a grade is owner-entered or certified. Record the grading service and certification number exactly when applicable.
Store the physical location
A catalog is most useful when it can connect the record to the album, tray, box or safe where the coin actually lives.
